FRIENDS UPDATE

The Friends Committee have already booked the Royal Shakespeare trip for next year - see details below, but if any Friends have ideas fortrips please contact Tony Ringer on 029 2075 6970 or email him on friendsstdavidshall@gmail.com.

Our Annual General Meeting was held on 18 September in the St Asaph Room, St David' Hall and although the number of Friends attending was disappointing, we are pleased to report that the Committee have agreed to volunteer for a further year, John Young taking over from Janice Grindle as Vice Chairman.

The Committee is as follows:
Chairman: Mrs June Courtis, Vice Chairman: John Young, Treasurer: David Matthews, Secretary: Mrs Glenys Harries.
Committee Members: "200 Club" Organiser: Miss Debbie Hall, Events Organiser: Tony Ringer, Miss Hazel Dickson, MBE, Miss Janice Grindle, John Roberts and Mrs Margaret Taylor.

Application forms to join the "200 Club" are available from the Friends' racking in St David's Hall (second pillar on the right near the escalator) or from Debbie Hall, 19 Richard Lewis Close, Danescourt, Cardiff CF5 2BT.

Thames Cruise and Windsor Castle 2 June 2013
The Friends Committee invite you to join us on a trip to Maidenhead and Windsor. Our trip will commence by coach from the Museum steps at 8:30am where we will set out for the Maidenhead Promenade to board our vessel on the River Thames. our trip will pass through Boveney and bray Locks, Oakley Court and Monkey island and continues past Windsor Racecourse with spectacular views of Windsor Castle and Eton College.
The rest of the day is free to visit the Castle at your leisure and explore this Royal Borough. Included in your package is a ticket for entrance to the Castle with audio tour.
You can visit the state apartments, drawings gallery and Queen Mary's Dolls House. Our coach will collect us from Windsor around 5:00pm for our trip home.

Castle Trio-Sunday 1 September 2013

We have arranged for a Castle Day for your enjoyment , our trip will visit a trio of castles. Initially we leave the Museum steps at 8:30am and head for Raglan Castle, a 15the Century castle which wows the visitor just as the owner intended. From Raglan we continue to our second castle, Hampton Court Castle and Gardens, in Herefordshire, not to be confused with the London palace. The Castle has a rich and fascinating history dating back prior to the 15th Century and is surrounded by 1000 acres of stunning parkland with the river Lugg running alongside. The Orangery Restaurant serves snacks and is available at a discounted price for those who pre-order, details will be sent to you for pre-ordering with you acknowledgement. The Garden was voted in the top 50 gardens by The Independent. Our third and final castle is Eastnor Castle, the family home of the Hervey-Bathhurst family, set in the dramatic setting of the Malvern Hills and surrounded by a beautiful deer park, arboretum and lake. Having completed our trio of castles we then make our way back home.

Both events are being organised by Tony Ringer who is finalising prices, but we would appreciate hearing from you if you interested in these trips and when he can give you more details.
His Telephone number is 029 2075 6970 and his email address is friendsstdavidshall@gmail.com
