Welsh Proms Cardiff 19 - 26 July 2013

Welcome to the 2014 Welsh Proms
It seems extraordinary that 2014 will mark the thirty -first anniversary of the official opening of St David's Hall, the National Concert Hall of Wales. An unrivalled purpose built acoustically excellent facility that has hosted some of the world's greatest orchestras and performers, right in the heart of the capital city. I'm delighted to see that the Welsh Proms still form an indispensable part of St David's Hall's programme, led with unflagging energy and enthusiasm by the man who founded them, Owain Arwel Hughes CBE.

The Welsh Proms has its own special atmosphere. For a week, St David's Hall takes on a carnival atmosphere and during that time music-making seems to occupy every space within it, even bursting out on to the streets. There really is such a variety of music, including folk, jazz, and children's concerts through to the evening concerts that form the hub of the Welsh Proms. The performers range from world-class names through to up-and-coming local talent, providing music right throughout the day & evening.

Away from the main stage our Lefel 1 studio space showcases the talents, creativity and ambitions of young and emerging music makers and helping the party run smoothly our Welsh Proms volunteers are getting invaluable work experience and training helping out on this eclectic and inspiring festival of music.

Welsh Proms Volunteer SchemeContinuing with the theme of youth engagement, the Welsh Proms Volunteers will be running Lefel 1 alongside the professionals.

Now in its fourth year, the Welsh Proms Volunteer Scheme gives 16-25 year olds the opportunity to learn about arts and events management through working in all departments of the Hall during the festival. Guided by experienced professionals, the Proms Volunteers will be welcoming the audience, working with the performers and managing the filming and photographing of performances.

If you would like further information about the volunteer scheme, please email artsactive@cardiff.gov.uk
