MARCH should hopefully mean some warmer weather and sunshine, and there’s plenty to put a spring in your step at St David’s Hall!

Throughout the month there’s the usual mix of world class orchestras, rock legends and superb stand-up comedy. Plus, March wouldn’t be complete without a healthy dose of patriotism.

There’s no better way to celebrate St David’s Day in style than with the BBC National Orchestra & Chorus of Wales (Weds 1 March) as sensational soprano Rebecca Evans curates a programme of rousing music to reflect Wales’ rich cultural heritage. Likewise, the ‘Pride of Wales’ Joe Calzaghe (Sat 11 March) talks about his incredible boxing career of 46 wins, no losses and 32 knock-outs. Plus, Cardiff’s own Capital City Jazz Orchestra (Thurs 9 March) return with a helping hand from American trumpet icon Bobby Shew.

Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam
Tuesday 7 March, 7.30pm

Guitar hero Dave Mason (Tues 7 March) has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Wonder, and now he’ll be showcasing his six-string skills as part of the Traffic Jam World Tour. The big names in the music world don’t stop there either as The Elvis Years (Sun 5 March) relives all the huge hits of Tennessee’s favourite son in The Story of the King.

Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra
Friday 3 March, 7.30pm

Meanwhile, the International Concert Series continues with the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra (Fri 3 March) and the Welsh National Opera Orchestra (Sun 19 March) both performing symphoniesof the great Czech composer Dvořák. Our captivating Lunchtime Concerts resume too with Handel’s Messiah from Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir (Tues 21 March), whilst charismatic organist Raúl Prieto Ramírez (Tues 28 March) delivers a powerful programme of Bach and Buxtehude. Roots Unearthed is back as well with folk and blues duo Martin Harley & Daniel Kimbro (Tues 21 March).

Lee Nelson: Serious Joker
Sunday 12 March, 7.30pm

Also, in the L3 Lounge is mesmerising vocalist Camille O’Sullivan (Thurs 23 March) with her breathtaking interpretations of Bowie, Brel and Cave in The Carny Dream. Film fans and telly addicts will love the pair of Geek Musique concerts, The Sound of Sci-Fi and Cult TV Classics from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (3.30pm & 9pm, Sat 25 March) too. Expect everything from Star Wars and Terminator to Doctor Who and Cagney & Lacey!

Camille O’Sullivan: The Carny Dream
Thursday 23 March, 8pm

If you fancy a laugh, there’s cheeky chappy Lee Nelson (Sun 12 March) in Serious Joker. And if you’re still after something a bit out of the ordinary there’s The Circus of Horrors (Weds 22 March) in The Never-Ending Nightmare and the awe-inspiring Banff Mountain Film Festival 2017 (Thurs 30 March).
