Musicals spectacular led by Only Men Aloud’s David Mahoney will feature The Novello Orchestra, with the West End’s Kerry Ellis, Matt Cardle, Noel Sullivan, Sophie Evans and Lucie Jones
The star-studded line up will include leading lady Kerry Ellis, whose credits include Wicked and Les Misérables, X Factor winner Matt Cardle, former Hear’Say singer and star of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Noel Sullivan, Wicked’s soon to be Glinda Sophie Evans and Lucie Jones, fresh from representing the UK in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The 25 piece Novello Orchestra, a name synonymous with the glitz and glamour of the musicals, will make its St David’s Hall debut on Sunday 29 October after recent acclaimed performances at the London Palladium, Royal Festival Hall and Wales Millennium Centre.
The celebration of musical theatre will feature show-stopping songs from Wicked, Les Misérables, Chicago, Hairspray, Miss Saigon and many more – and all under the baton of Only Men Aloud’s David Mahoney. David Mahoney said: “St David’s Hall is the perfect location for the spectacle that The Novello Orchestra provides. The evening is set to be a stylish, sophisticated take on well-known musical show-stoppers as well as a more contemporary repertoire.”

Singer, songwriter and performer Matt Cardle rose to fame after winning the seventh series of The X Factor, receiving a recording contract with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music and later Columbia Records. His winning single, When We Collide, debuted at number one on the UK singles chart, selling over 1 million copies. In 2015, he took over the lead role of Huey Calhoun in the West End production of Memphis the Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
Lucie was a finalist in the 2009 series of The X Factor. Since then, she has made numerous musical theatre and television appearances, with credits including Cosette in the West End production of Les Misérables, Meat in the We Will Rock You world tour, Victoria in American Psycho at London’s Almeida Theatre, Molly in the Asia tour of Ghost and Elle Woods in hit musical Legally Blonde, a role which she will revive on the UK tour in 2017. Lucie represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song ‘Never Give Up on You’, finishing with 111 points in 15th place, the country’s best result since 2011.

Kerry Ellis has fast become recognized as the First Lady of West End musicals from her starring roles in London and on Broadway. She has also achieved chart-topping success as a recording artists signed to Universal Decca with her debut album Anthems followed by two further albums. Kerry originated the role of Meat in Queen’s We Will Rock You and was the first British Elphaba in the West End smash, Wicked, for which she won two What’s On Stage Awards. Kerry transferred to Broadway to play Elphaba at the Gershwin Theatre for six months, where she won the Broadway.com Audience Award for Favourite Female Breakthrough performance. Her many other leading role West End credits include Nancy in Oliver!, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Ellen in Miss Saigon, Fantine in Les Misérables and Grizabella in Cats.

Popular Welsh singer and actor Noel Sullivan has a glittering career in musical theatre and has previously performed as Drew Boley in Rock of Ages, Danny Zuko in Grease and Galileo in We Will Rock You.TV credits include Gavin and Stacey, The Royal Variety Show and Top of the Pops. Noel was a member of British pop group Hear’Say, created through the ITV reality show Popstars.

Hailing from Tonypandy, singer and actress Sophie Evans came to prominence in 2010 when she was picked from over 10,000 hopefuls to appear on the BBC series Over the Rainbow. After making it to the final, Sophie was named runner-up and was subsequently chosen by Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber to play Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium in 2011. Sophie will take over the role of Glinda in the West End production of Wicked from July 2017.
