Guidelines for Visiting Company Riggers

• When arriving at St David’s Hall main auditorium, please identify yourself to a member of the Stage Technical Department.
• If you have documentation (NRC, Liability Insurance, etc), please have this documentation available for inspection, if requested. If documentation is not made available, St David’s Hall retains the right to deny access to our roof space.
• Ensure that correct PPE is worn when necessary.
• Access to St David’s Hall Roof Space can only be granted by a member of the Stage Technical Department. The correct access door code will be give to you on request.
• Inform all personnel on stage when you access the roof space or return from the roof space. The Stage Technical Department staff will create a hard hat area below and ensure necessary PPE is worn.
• Do not prop open the access door to the roof space.
• Before climbing the final access ladder, empty all non-essential items into the wall box provided. All pockets should be emptied and loose items (Mobile Phones, Pens, Money, etc) must be removed.
• Roof space working lights must be switched on when entering the space and switched off when leaving. It is the visiting riggers responsibility to ensure this is done, as it indicates to staff below if someone is working in the roof.
• Only rig from clearly marked and rated beams. St David’s Hall retains the right to ask for points to be re-rigged if this condition is broken.
• Stage Technical staff retains ultimate discretion on any rigging undertaken by a visiting rigger. If they are unhappy about any aspect of the work, they have the right to ask that the work be completed to a satisfactory standard.
• All points must have a secondary means of support, unless the margin of safety deems it un-necessary. All final decisions regarding safety cables are at the discretion of the Stage Technical Department.
• Safety cables must be attached to the truss while on the floor and pulled up into the roof space once the truss is in position. Attaching safety cable to flown truss is not permitted.
• Correctly rated body harnesses MUST be worn when climbing trusses. At least one point must be secured at all times between truss and body harness.
• Attaching safety cables must only be done once all truss working has been completed (Truss walking, focusing, etc). Our rescue policy relies on the ability to fly in any points should a climbing rigger fall from a truss. Attaching safety lines before truss work is completed is in breach of our Rescue policy and is therefore not permitted.
• Once the performance is completed, access to the roof space is only allowed once the house is clear. No safety cables should be removed until this is so.
• Final decisions regarding rigging, rigging practices or Health and Safety are the Stage Technical Departments. If any rigging is deemed unsatisfactory, unsafe or high risk, they have the right to ask that the rigging be re-done or, in extreme cases, the performance be postponed until the items are rectified.
• Any instances of unsafe behaviour, lack of Heath and Safety awareness, misuse of drugs or alcohol or inability to carry out rigging tasks in conjunction with the wishes of St David’s Hall, will be dealt with and could result in visiting company members being refused access to the roof space, or asked to leave the building altogether.
